Pablo Picasso once said “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” This piece was created with the playfulness that is sometimes lost as an adult. It started with messy layers of acrylic squiggles and drips of acrylic inks, followed by layers of spray paint, acrylic paint and finally finished with oils. The layers allude to the complexity of mental health – some of them hidden or obscured. The figure searches for a moment of calm in the midst of stormy seas, and the sun begins to shine.
